Over 700 recruits in NYS training

The National Youth Service (NYS) celebrated the official inauguration of the 15th year of national service training at the Henties Bay training centre last weekend. In the presence of sport, youth and national service minister Agnes Tjongarero, the official start of the training of over 700 recruits was celebrated - the largest group ever trained at one time in the history of the NYS.

NYS board chairperson Emmerentia Leonard explained that training began on 10 June with an initial intake of 763 recruits. However, some withdrew due to employment and training opportunities, leaving the current number at 726. She added that the recruits were selected from all 121 constituencies in Namibia to ensure equal representation and access to NYS programmes.
