Dance group takes serious conversation to schools

The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) dance troupe is currently visiting schools in the Kunene region to raise awareness among learners and conduct discussions on issues surrounding gender violence. This is an initiative supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Namibia and the Regain Trust. This is the first of these initiatives in schools to ensure that all learners have the basic information and know where to seek help if they encounter problems of this nature. This will be followed by a second intervention campaign aimed only at boys to discuss the concept of positive masculinity. "Changing gender norms takes time. But one child at a time, by making sure we don't leave anyone behind, we can make a difference," said OYO.
