NWR ceases shuttle operations at Sossusvlei 4x2 area
News in short
Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) announced that as from today, 15 October, there will be an essential change to its shuttle service operations in the Sossusvlei area.
NWR spokesperson Nelson Ashipala said the company will cease to operate its shuttle service from the 4x2 area at Sossusvlei and will now exclusively run the shuttle from the Sesriem campsite.
Clients who have already booked shuttle vouchers or tickets to Deadvlei will now be ferried from the campsite instead, he said.
Those interested in the service have been urged to buy their shuttle tickets at the campsite. “We encourage all guests to make the necessary arrangements and plan their visits accordingly. Our team remains committed to offering the best service possible service and will be available to assist with any queries or concerns regarding these changes,” Ashipala said .
This move comes after tourism industry stakeholders expressed displeasure after a private company - which received a 25-year contract to transport tourists to Sossusvlei - erected a boom gate in the area without any warning. This gate blocks the 4x2 parking lot at Sossusvlei, and tour operators have allegedly been turned away from the park.
