JUST IN: HAN congress to focus on tourism training
Tomorrow, the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN) will launch its annual congress, which will take place in Windhoek on 15 and 16 May.
The congress will be held under the theme 'co-creation of a tourism training roadmap for Namibia', and will bring together over 24 training institutions and programmes, and the travel industry, to pave the way for a targeted and effective network of development programmes to address the skills deficiency in tourism.
According to HAN, available statistics reveal that by the end of 2022, the Namibian travel and hospitality sector had recovered to over 80% of its normal performance, and all indications are that this year it can reach full recovery.
This very positive and welcomed development does, however, have its consequences, it said.
"The biggest challenge facing the international travel industry today is a skills deficiency. Globally, the travel industry is experiencing an unprecedented shortage of skilled staff, and we here in Namibia are no exception,” HAN CEO Gitta Paetzold said.
