The 12 teams to contest this year’s MTC Netball Namibia Premier League have been confirmed, following the governing body’s promotion-relegation playoffs held at Wanderers on Saturday.

Wanderers from Windhoek have secured qualification for the first time, while Omusati Region’s Fatou Netball Club will also be a newcomer in the upcoming season.

Two more Omusati teams – Northern Fly Ballers and Young Stars – managed to hold on to their Premier League spots at last weekend’s qualifiers, which were contested by nine clubs from across the country.

Dominant performances

Khomas Region representative Wanderers, led by captain Berné Nel, delivered the two highest-scoring and most dominant performances of the day, racking up a 34-6 win against Tsumeb and a 29-4 blowout against the Afrocat Wild Cats.

Wanderers then remained unbeaten with a narrow 19-18 win against Young Stars, with both of these teams qualifying on top of Group A.

Young Stars’ other results on Saturday were a 26-22 win against the Afrocat Wild Cats and a 20-20 draw against Blue Waters from Walvis Bay.

In Group B, the Northern Fly Ballers won 17-14 against Fatou NC, 22-13 against Young Eleven Stars, and 15-10 against Mariental Nampol.

• The twelve qualified teams for the 2023 MTC Premier League, which is expected to start in March, are: Mighty Gunners, Namibian Navy, Namibia Correctional Services; Tigers, Otjozondjupa Nampol, Rebels, Afrocat Lions, Eleven Arrows, Young Stars, Northern Fly Ballers, Wanderers and Fatou.
