MTC announces grace period for suspended SIM cards

Telecommunications company MTC has announced a grace period for suspended SIM cards until 1 July.

According to MTC, over 1.6 million of its subscribers registered their SIM cards by the 31 March deadline, accounting for a 83.3% registration rate. Unregistered customers now total 323 236.

Chief human capital, corporate affairs and marketing officer Tim Ekandjo said the registration process ended on 31 March, following an extension from the initial deadline of 31 December 2023.

“It now means that the unregistered customers will unfortunately be suspended from the network. The suspension, however, does not mean that their numbers will be deactivated. Suspension simply means that the customer will not be able to utilise any services until they comply with the registration process,” he said.

“The period from 1 April until 1 July is referred to as a ‘grace period’. Should the ‘grace period’ lapse and no action is taken taken by a SIM owner, the number will be deactivated/deleted from the network permanently.”

Ekandjo added: “The unregistered customers contribute approximately 3.1% of revenue, translating to an average of N$8.1 million per month".
