Ministry wants to digitise services, Theofelus says

The ministry of information and communication technology (ICT) wants to make government services more accessible through digital integration.

This according to minister Emma Theofelus, who was speaking at the eighth national ICT summit in Windhoek yesterday.

"Digital technology is transforming how we deliver public services and engage with our citizens. From e-government to digital health and education, this technology offers new ways to deliver services and improve the quality of our people's lives. We must use this technology to make government services more accessible, adequate and responsive," she said.

She added that she hopes technology can empower young people to earn an income and help people with disabilities to better integrate into society. "Our young people have so much creativity and we hope to give them the chance to earn an income from it."

Theofelus also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for innovation and progress in Namibia.

“AI is at the forefront of our digital revolution. It holds tremendous potential to transform industries, improve productivity and solve complex problems. However, the integration of AI into our systems and processes brings challenges, including ethical issues, data protection and the need for a regulatory framework."

The summit will draw to a close tomorrow.
