Post mandate extension, chairperson of the Fifa Normalisation Committee (NC) Bisey Uirab said they will focus on reviewing the Namibia Football Associations (NFA) Statutes which will be adopted by Congress.
The NC’s mandate to fix football matters in Namibia was extended last week by Fifa – the custodians of world football who cited that they have taken note of the progress of the committee and further lengthened their command for another seven months.
Uirab added that towards the end of the term in November, an Elective Congress will be organized where a new leadership of the NFA will be elected.
He further added that revamping the administration of the NFA will be another focus as these will include issues surrounding finance, people and general management.
“We will also make sure that the next league season kicks off timeously and that we improve on challenges experienced last season.
Uirab furthermore added that they will continue to engage with the rest of the stakeholders more especially the members to make sure that all machinery of NFA is in well in place.
As the Brave Warriors of Namibia prepares to take on Burundi in June, hoping to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Uirab said that the priority is to ensure qualification for next year’s tournament. As well as to prepare the team for the Cosafa Championships.
The current committee took charge in March last year with the mandate to run the daily affairs of the NFA; restructure the NFA administration; review the NFA statutes and electoral code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the NFA congress; act as an electoral committee in order to organize and conduct elections of a new NFA exco based on the newly aligned NFA statutes and electoral code; and ensure a proper financial handover to the new NFA executive committee.
When they took charge, the NFA was without an executive committee, a case still at hand. The then secretary-general (SG), Franco Cosmos was in charge of matters – dealing with jobs which are the responsibility of the executive committee.
He eventually stepped down and Joachim Traut has been appointed as SG. The NC committee has so further also ensured that the mainstream football league kicked off with the sponsorship of DebMarine (men) and FNB for the women’s league.
