Ondangwa invests in sports
The Ondangwa Town Council has donated sporting gear worth N$100 000 to six sports clubs in the town.
The donations were made earlier this month and provide an opportunity for unlocking much-needed financial resources and growing sports programmes in the town.
The beneficiaries are KK Palace Football Club, Young Brave Football Club, Mama Love Football Club, Ondangwa United Football Club, Ondangwa Football Academy and SOS Volleyball Academy.
Ondangwa mayor Paavo Amwele said the teams received sporting kits and training equipment, all branded with the town council’s logo.
Amwele said the teams consist of about 200 players combined.
Investing in the future
He urged the young players to take their training seriously, noting that with hard work, they could eventually represent the country at world events in their respective sporting codes.
“As council, we remain committed to uplift our people. We have big plans for soccer and all other sports development in Ondangwa. This includes the construction of our multimillion-dollar all-codes sporting stadium in the town,” he said.
Amwele said the town is growing at a fast rate, which calls for the need to have state-of-the-art facilities that support sporting events.
“Having the best soccer stadium in Ondangwa means we will be able to attract all teams to come and have their games here, including the national team,” he said.

Amwele said the donation marks efforts to meet government halfway in developing sports. He said they hope the work pays off in the future with players selected to represent the town and surrounding areas on national teams.
“Remain committed to your training. Focus and be very disciplined all the time,” he urged the players.
KK Palace FC team manager Mateus Iitula expressed gratitude to the council for the donation and investment in their players.
Iitula said this will keep the team motivated and boost their morale. He said the players will be ambassadors of the Ondangwa Town Council and carry their banner high wherever they find themselves.
