Nghitumbwa to fight for redemption
• Namibian excited for December battle
MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Promotions boxer Fillipus 'Energy' Nghitumbwa has been pitted against South Africa's Thato Bonakoane for an African title.
Fillipus 'Energy' Nghitumbwa has expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to fight for another African title.
The former African Champion is optimistic that he will deliver in his next fight, slated for 2 December.
The boxer will come up against South Africa’s Thato Bonakoane for the vacant WBO Africa Super Bantamweight title.
“I am extremely excited to get a second chance to redeem myself. I respect his record and his pedigree.
"I will, however, come with my own pedigree, as my dream is to fight the best to become the best, and this is my opportunity to go back to the top to challenge for the world title,” Nghitumbwa said.
The boxer who lost to John Riel Casimero in the Philippines in May has vowed to use the fight as his redemption.
Powerful foes
The two fighters have been described as powerful boxers, thus making the fight even more interesting.
The Nestor Sunshine boxing stable expects nothing less than a knockout.
Nghitumbwa has won 12 of his professional fights and has only lost twice since making his pro debut in 2017.
The South African is the current WBF world champion, with a record of 15 wins in 21 fights.
Bonakoane has, however, suffered five losses and one draw in his professional career.
It is the reason why Nghitumbwa aims to guard against complacency, given the magnitude of the fight.
Nestor Tobias, promoter and head trainer of MTC Sunshine Boxing Academy, said the camp is thrilled to have secured such a “quality and suitable opponent” for their boxer.
"He was obviously very disappointed in losing his close fight to Casimero, but we assured him that we would give him another opportunity to redeem himself like we did for our former champions.
"The time is now, and this time Energy should shine, as this does not get better than fighting a high-profile fight to get back in the top 15 world ratings,” Tobias said.
Watch the action
The action will unfold at the Windhoek Country Club, where the stable will have several undercards before the main event of the night.
“We would like to thank our print media, electronics media, our main sponsor, MTC, and our co-sponsor, PstBet, for their support over the past years."
Tickets will be sold for N$200 for general admission, while a VVIP table for 10 guests, including wine and dinner, is available for N$20 000.
