Namport announced a N$3.5 million sponsorship over three years towards the Second and Third Division soccer leagues of the Namibian Football Association.
The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport), announced a N$10.5 million sponsorship, spanning three years, to the Namibia Football Association (NFA) second and third division women’s and men’s leagues.
The sponsorship is in the amount of N$3.5 million per annum for a period of three years, commencing on 9 December 2024 and the leagues will now be known as the Namport Regional Football Leagues.
Andrew Kanime, the CEO of Namport, explained at the announcement on Monday in Walvis Bay, that Namport have decided to broaden their social investment footprint and extend support, through the Namport Social Investment Fund (NSIF), to the NFA, particularly for the development of football at grassroots levels.
“Through supporting football and extending direct funding, we will inspire our young men and women. This sponsorship will focus on the development of skills at grassroots level, unite our people as football transcends all differences, race, or creed, and create hope from opportunities available within the global sphere of football.”
Kanime also implored the NFA, to make effective use of the sponsorship to finance the activities of the second and third division leagues and to make a difference in the lives of Namibian youth.
NFA president, Robert Shimooshili, said that Namibian young boys and girls footballers can look forward to a brighter future as they are supported by two giants: Namport and NFA.
“This commitment, in essence, touches the hearts and minds of 336 clubs in the regional second (men and women) and 504 third division teams, with 36 teams per region. More than 6,120 players compete for the top honours of the Namport Football Awards in the men’s and women’s categories.”
Shimooshili added that the 6,120 players do not include the administrators, match officials, medical staff, and security personnel. “When you do the math, you will realize the impact of the Namport Football sponsorship; it is not only enormous but also enriches the narrative of the NFA and Namibian football by leaps and bounds.”
