Elections not on the table

Namibia Football Association (NFA) members will meet this weekend during a congress aimed at focusing on financial reporting as well as other activities within the association at the NamPower hall on Saturday.

Delegates will not be voting or making changes, but instead will attend an ordinary congress, which is expected to provide updates, chairperson of the normalisation committee (NC) Bisey Uirab said.

"I can confirm again that no status will be changed by this congress," Uirab underlined.

"There will be no elections for now because our mandate still runs until April.

"The reason we are not making noise about it is that it is just an ordinary congress, which has to take place every year.

"The congress will, however, focus on the financial reporting and other activities," Uirab said.

Discussion points

Nevertheless, Namibian Sun understands that some delegates have been unhappy with some of the decisions the committee has made and that could be echoed at the table during the congress.

One of the issues that will allegedly be brought to the table is the lifting of the expulsion of former Namibia Premier League members by the NC before congress.

It is understood that some members are still not pleased with the decisions and will propose that they be discussed further.

"Well, at the moment, we have not heard about any issues or members feeling left out.

"I understand that everyone and every region will be represented at this congress," Uirab confirmed.

New management

In March of this year, the International Federation of Football Associations (Fifa) announced the appointment of the NC.

The committee comprises Gerson Bisey Uirab (chairperson), Afra Schimming-Chase (deputy chairperson), Willy Mertens (member), Esmeralda Muhinatjo Katjaerua (member), and Dinaa Shituula (member).

The committee was appointed after the elected NFA executive was discharged by its members after failing to get a grip on proceedings at the football house following infighting and division.

Former secretary-general Franco Cosmos, who had served on a previous normalisation committee at the time, remained as the leader of the association before Fifa appointed the committee to take charge.

However, Cosmos was also dismissed after the new committee assumed power.

The NC, led by Uirab, has ushered in the successful revival of league football after securing a Debmarine Namibia sponsorship.
