#JustIn: Windfall for athletes and coaches

The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) today announced it received N$1.045 million from the ministry of sport, youth and national service to settle outstanding financial rewards owed to athletes and coaches as per the country’s policy.

The money has already been disbursed to the athletes’ and coaches’ accounts early as this morning, the NSC said.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games team got an allocation of N$260 000. The Special Olympics Summer Games team received N$275 000, while the 2023 Paris Para World Championships participants got N$410 000 for their efforts. The African Beach Games’ winners were also among the recipients, getting a collective N$100 000.

“We understand the waiting period has been long: however, it is better to be late than never and we will work around this challenge with our line ministry,” NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said.

The money will shared as per the value of the medals the athletes won.
