Dam, Shivolo win Street Mile
Tenth edition ends successfully
David Dam and Martha Shivolo won the Omaruru Street Mile over the weekend.
The 10th edition of the Erongo Powersave Street Mile Run which took place in Omaruru ended successfully.
The race was another milestone with 1 402 participants from over Namibia with David Dam (NCS) winning the senior men’s race in a time of 4:15.2 seconds, Rainold Thomas (NCS) bagged second place on 4:16.4 seconds whereas third place went to Wilhelm Hangula (NDF) took third place in 4:16.18 seconds.
In the women’s race Martha Shivolo (NCS) bagged first place in 4:55.6 seconds, second place went to Alina Armas (NDF) in a time of 4:58.4 seconds. The third place went to Beata Jeremia (NAMPOL) in 4:59.6 seconds.
The race director Berthold Karumendu was over the moon saying that so many young talents turned up in numbers for this event.
Karumendu stated that the quality of the race has grown over the past 10-years. “This event had elite athletes who just returned from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary this year. Alina Armas in the women race and Thomas Reinhard in the men’s race.
“For the first time we also introduced the wheelchair race where three men took part in that category T53 and 54. This was the excitement of the day.
“An event of this quality is always made possible by those who have supported the race since 2013, therefore, I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the support of the my sponsors Shield Namibia/Erongo Powersave Wholesale, FNB - Omaruru, Coca Cola Namibia Bottling Company, the ministry of sport for transporting athletes to Omaruru as well as the Omaruru Municipality.
“Omaruru Spar for the support as well as the Namibian Police in Omaruru and the Omaruru District,”Karumendu concluded.
