All set for thrilling Quadrangular
Capricorn Eagles ready for action
The Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular T20 International tournament kicks off today in the capital and runs until 2 May at the United Cricket Ground.
The Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular that begins today will feature Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Uganda.
They will compete against the Namibian national side, the Capricorn Eagles.
The Capricorn Eagles, currently ranked 19th in the T20 international format, are aiming to improve their world ranking.
"The Capricorn Women’s Quadrangular is a highlight on the cricket calendar. It is extremely important for Cricket Namibia to attract international female teams to play international cricket on home soil.
"Through this tournament, we can promote the women’s game and showcase the enormous talent we have," said Johan Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia (CN).
Entertaining event
"Emirates Cricket Board thanks CN for organising this event. We are looking forward to an entertaining and competitive tournament, which will go a long way in promoting the growth of cricket in Namibia," said general secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board, Mubashshir Usmani.
"We are fully committed to the development and growth of women’s cricket in the UAE, especially our national women’s team, and our participation in this tournament is about providing our players with exposure and opportunities. There is a big interest in the sport across UAE and we will continue to provide domestic and international exposure to our players."
Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group executive for brand and corporate affairs, said the group is proud to be associated with Cricket Namibia.
"We see the sponsorship of CN as an investment in the Capricorn Eagles as well as women's and girls’ cricket in Namibia. Capricorn Group continues to make a positive impact in our communities, of which our continued support of women’s cricket in Namibia is proof. We are proud of our Capricorn Eagles and delighted to be part of their journey," she said.
Great excitement
Alan Mugume, the CEO of the Uganda Cricket Association, added: "This is the second time the Victoria Pearls are taking part in the Capricorn Eagles series. Last year was a particularly pleasant experience for a group of inexperienced players, and we are grateful to CN for a great relationship."
For Mark Farmer, the general manager of Cricket Hong Kong, the Windhoek tournament will be an exciting opportunity for the participating countries to show their mettle.
"This is an exciting tournament between four strong teams. The opportunity to play highly competitive cricket outside of Asia will provide a fantastic platform for our players to perform and gain invaluable experience. Most cricket games we play are in the Asian region, so I know the team will be extremely excited to be playing cricket in new conditions and against opposition they have not had the chance to compete against previously, in the case of Namibia. We have had great games against the UAE, and we are excited to play against Namibia," he said.
