Mining company Deep Yellow Limited and its subsidiary, Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (RMR), provided a sponsorship in the form of playing vests for the Swakopmund volleyball team.
The team secured a gold medal at the Southern African Inter-Municipal Association Games (SAIMSA) held in Walvis Bay recently.
The talented players from Swakopmund dominated and defeated Lesotho, Eswatini, Zambia, and Botswana in a thrilling finale.
“This victory highlights not only their athletic prowess, but also the strong sense of community and teamwork that defines Swakopmund and its people. We are incredibly proud of the Swakopmund volleyball team for their hard work and dedication, and we are honoured to have been part of their journey to success.
“The sponsorship reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and promoting sports development in Namibia,” said Dr Katrin Kärner, exploration manager at RMR.
Namibia Reptile’s contribution played a pivotal role in ensuring the team looked and felt their best as they represented Swakopmund at the 2024 SAIMSA Games. The games have become an annual highlight for sports enthusiasts and attract teams from local authorities and communities across Southern Africa.
The event brings together top teams from across the Namibian regions and SADC countries in September.
“The most recent victory by the Swakopmund volleyball team adds to their impressive track record and reinforces their status as one of the top teams in the region.
“The team has a long-standing tradition of excellence, winning not only locally but also on the regional stage, having previously scored victories in Lesotho, Eswatini and Botswana,” concluded Dr Kärner.
