The Capricorn Schools Netball League 2024 officially launched amid a whirlwind of excitement and anticipation, at a ceremony at Windhoek Gymnasium this week.

With 85 teams from 25 schools, representing various age groups from under-12 to under 19, the stage is set for a vibrant display of athleticism.

The gathering of both public and private institutions once again promises a spirited competition, where talent knows no boundaries and sportsmanship reigns supreme.

Reflecting on the success of the previous year, where 69 teams from eight regions across Namibia fervently competed, the anticipation for this season has been palpable.

Hailing from Khomas, ||Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Otjikoto, Omaheke and Erongo, schools proudly represent their regions, embodying the diverse tapestry of Namibian youth.

With close to 700 players from 25 schools, including both public and private institutions, the league stands as a testament to the inclusive spirit of the sport.

The league covers six age categories, catering to the developmental needs and aspirations of many young players.

Windhoek Gymnasium has established itself as a formidable contender, fueled by their remarkable achievements in last year’s tournament. With national championship titles in categories ranging from under 12 to under 17, they will be coming into this year’s competition with sustained pressure of performance as more schools look to secure silverware at the national play-offs round scheduled for 24 August.

At the launch attended by anticiping players, coaches and fans, Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group’s Executive Brand & Corporate Affairs, expressed her enthusiasm for the league, underscoring its significance in nurturing young talent and fostering a culture of excellence.

“The Capricorn Schools Netball League serves as a vital platform for aspiring athletes to showcase their skills at a competitive level. Endorsed by the Namibian School Sport Union, it represents the pinnacle of school netball, offering players invaluable opportunities for growth and development,” Horn remarked.

The opening weekend’s fixtures are scheduled to start on Friday at 14:00, resuming on Saturday from 09:00 until the afternoon.

Matches will be played at two different venues, namely at Windhoek Gymnasium (age groups U12, U13 and U14) and at Windhoek High School (age groups U15, U17 and U19).

Capricorn Group has been sponsoring the Schools Netball League since 2017 when it took over the sponsorship from its subsidiary Bank Windhoek.
