Omaheke Queens regrouping after 'painful' loss – Eiseb
Introspection after big loss
The club has lost more experienced players to other clubs and says sponsorships are hard to come by.
Omaheke Queens coach Geraldo Eiseb says his side is regrouping and restructuring after suffering a humiliating 30-0 defeat at the hands of Tura Magic on Saturday in the FNB Women's Super League match on home ground.
Eiseb said losing to Magic in such a painful manner is partly because the team have lost about six players to other top clubs.
"We are rebuilding and restructuring. We had experienced players who went on to join other top teams. Looking at all the players who left, they gained a lot of experience throughout the league. But this could not be contained to assist the team.
Young team
He added that the Namibia Football Association's circular allows players to be bought for a certain amount.
"It’s part of football. These girls moved on to greener pastures. These clubs have private sponsors, and the girls are being paid on a monthly basis. We approached the private sector, but it’s a difficult process to get sponsorship," Eiseb said.
Eiseb said he is now operating with a very young squad. "Currently, we have 11- to 13-year old girls on the team. The oldest one is 17 years old. If you look at the physique of these players, they are smaller in their build compared to the likes of Magic.
"It’s painful to lose to Magic. If you look at the first leg result, it was 14-0, but now it's 30-0. But looking at it from the perspective of a coach who has been coaching for a while, it’s a new environment for these girls – they are young. If you compare, 90% of Magic are senior national team players."
He added that they have gone as far as approaching schools and speaking to some parents about sending girls to join the club. The players that turned Eiseb explained have never played football before.
So far, Omaheke has only managed to win one match, 3-2 against the Ramblers.
Winners
In other matches played on Saturday, V-Power Angels beat Arrows Ladies 3-2 in a closely contested match played at the NFA Technical Centre in Windhoek.
Despite the experience of senior player Lorraine Jossob, she could not singlehandedly fend off the attack of the V-Power Angels as they pulled off a win against Arrows.
Head coach Risto Shikomba said the players executed the game plan very well.
"We are technically good; I told the girls to use their heads. I told them to be more on the ball, and they did that."
He added: "There is a lot to do. The girls are young."
A young Deborah Vries was voted player of the match and couldn’t contain her excitement. "I’m proud of our performance and the fact that I could make coach Shikomba proud," she said.
Unam Bokkies beat RightWay Phoenixes 4-0; Girls and Goals defeated Ramblers 3-2; Nust Babes won 3-1 against Namib Daughters; and Khomas Nampol won 3-1 against Ongwediva Queens.
