NSC visit highlights opportunities
NSFAF loans available
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has embarked on an awareness campaign in an effort to educate the public about their functions as well as their collaborative programme with the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF).
The Namibia Sport Commission’s (NSC) chief administrator, Simataa Mwiya, and public relations officer, Chalo Chainda, on Thursday held an information session with teachers and learners at the Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary School at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region.
The session was aimed at informing those present about the functions of the commission and various projects.
Mwiya and Chainda shared details with the school management and learners about the functions of the sports commission and, in particular, about the opportunities in place for learners to study sport and sport-related disciplines at Namibian universities, SADC countries and across the globe.
"This was a great meeting for us because we managed to meet people that needed more information about our functions as a commission.
"There are plenty of opportunities for sports aspirants. NSFAF, as well as the commission, can make things possible for those who are keen on doing any sport programmes of their choice," Mwiya said.
Many options
The fields of study that fall under the current study loan agreement between the NSFAF and NSC, include sports science; sports management; sports medicine; sports psychology; sports law; sports infrastructure development; sports nutrition; sports marketing management; and coaching and development.
"Students intending to study need to apply to NSFAF and must meet all NSFAF requirements and submit the admission letters from the institution of higher learning and a support letter from the school or sporting club to the NSC.
"For more details, kindly contact Chalo Chainda or visit the NSC website," Mwiya added.
The NSC chief underlined that they are willing to visit more places in the future in order to create awareness about their functions and what they have to offer.
