Nikola Jokic writes new NBA history, surpasses Larry Bird and joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The Denver Nuggets' center continues to make his case for a fourth MVP crown after becoming the fastest player to reach 15,000 points, 7,500 rebounds, and 5,000 assists.
Just three days after combining with Russell Westbrook to become the first pair of teammates to record triple-doubles in the same game multiple times in the same season, the 29-year-old three-time NBA MVP notched yet another triple-double and, with it, wrote a new record.
With one deft pass in the second quarter of the Nuggets' 118-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday (14 January) night, Jokic became the fastest player to reach 15,000 points, 7,500 rebounds, and 5,000 assists, accomplishing the feat in just 709 games.
Hall of Famer Larry Bird held the previous fastest mark, accomplishing the same feat in 799 games.
But it's not just the legendary Bird that Jokic is now mixing with.
The Serbian is now the second-only center in league history to have completed 5,000 assists after basketball giant Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The LA Lakers superstar notched 5,660 assists during his 13-year NBA career.
Two-time Olympic medallist Jokic is currently averaging a career-high 31.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game, and is continuing to strengthen his case for another MVP title in what is unfolding to be a tight race for the crown.
Going toe-to-toe with the 'Joker' is Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is playing a starring role in helping his side build on their current 33-6 record.
