MTC pledges N$1.4 million to Windhoek Golf Club sponsorship

The renewed sponsorship will provide internet connectivity and strengthen the MTC Women in Golf Programme.
In a continued commitment to the growth and inclusivity of Namibian golf, the Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) yesterday renewed its partnership with the Windhoek Golf Club, committing N$1.4 million over the next three years.
Effective October 2024, the partnership includes free internet connectivity for the club’s office operations and a strong focus on advancing the MTC Women in Golf Programme.
Speaking at the occasion, held at the club, MTC's manager for sponsorships and promotions, John Ekongo, highlighted the importance of the women’s initiative, which aims to empower women to join and excel in golf.
“This special programme is very dear to MTC’s heart. It was implemented to include women in the game of golf, particularly given the concerns of exclusion in that sector, and has benefitted over 60 women so far,” he noted.
Sponsorship benefits
Ekongo said the partnership, initiated in 2021, has thus far yielded positive results, including gate installations among other benefits.
“We want you to use the 081 brand and now we will provide internet connectivity for personnel offices. Please note that this connectivity is intended solely for office staff and operations, and is not public Wi-Fi,” he emphasised.
Regarding the MTC Women in Golf Programme, which began last year, Ekongo shared hopes of hosting events starting next year.
MTC Windhoek Golf Club’s chairman, Gerhard van Rooyen, highlighted that events like this would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of sponsors who believe in the club’s mission and vision.
“MTC has not only supported us financially but has also shown a shared passion for developing golf in Namibia. Over the past three years, we have doubled our membership and seen over 20 000 rounds played on the course.
“Our corporate and fundraising golf events have flourished, and the ladies’ coaching programme is a success story in its own right. We are very grateful that MTC is investing in women’s golf in Namibia,” he said.
Achievements
Van Rooyen further noted achievements made possible through MTC’s sponsorship, sharing that two of the club’s members recently won an International Pairs competition in Portugal.
“Thank you, MTC. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and achieving even greater success together,” he added.
Club general manager Trevor Britten said the club’s championships hosted this weekend are also part of MTC’s sponsorship.
“We are looking forward to a great tournament, with strong competition from our golfers and excellent prizes made possible through MTC’s support,” he said.
