Mondesa Cricket hub launched
Cricket Namibia and Langer Heinrich Uranium unite to make cricket accessible.
Cricket Namibia has announced a three-year partnership with Langer Heinrich Uranium and unveiled the Mondesa Cricket Hub in Swakopmund earlier this week.
This initiative, part of the Cricket4All campaign, aims to make cricket accessible to every Namibian child. The facility, located at Hanganeni Primary School in Mondesa, is expected to enhance grassroots development and create opportunities within the community. Construction is anticipated to be completed by February 2025.
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony held on 25 November 2024.
Cricket Namibia’s Mini Cricket Coordinator, Jona Ambuga, highlighted the organisation’s vision of being globally competitive, value-based, and inclusive. “We strive to be the preferred sport of choice in Namibia. This vision is not merely a statement but a mission that drives every project we undertake. To achieve it, we rely on our stakeholders—our communities, schools, government, and sponsors—who play a vital role in helping us bring this vision to life,” he said.
This milestone reflects the organisation’s commitment to fostering youth development and promoting inclusivity through sport. The cricket nets are expected to provide a platform for young talent in Mondesa to thrive, solidifying cricket’s role as a beacon of opportunity and growth in Namibian communities.
Neville Andre, Governor of the Erongo Region, praised the groundbreaking as a testament to community upliftment and the transformative power of sport. “This project is a testament to what can be achieved when stakeholders unite with a shared purpose,” he said. The Governor also emphasised the Namibian Government’s dedication to youth empowerment, community development, and infrastructure investment through sports.
The project not only embodies the spirit of community upliftment but also underscores the transformative power of sport. Thanks to the instrumental support of Langer Heinrich Uranium, whose sponsorship made the project possible, the facility is expected to become a haven for many, steering children away from the streets, igniting dreams, and nurturing future cricket stars.
Johan Roux, Managing Director of Langer Heinrich Uranium, stated: “This partnership is a symbol of our shared passion for making a meaningful impact in our communities and aligns seamlessly with our respective values. Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of something extraordinary. This facility will become a haven for many, steering children away from the streets, sparking dreams, and nurturing future cricket stars. This initiative reaffirms our commitment to making cricket accessible to everyone in our community. These stars will inspire the next generation of Namibian youth.”
Langer Heinrich Uranium and Cricket Namibia take pride in this partnership, particularly as it contributes to the success of cricket locally, embodying Cricket Namibia’s tagline, #Cricket4All. This collaboration truly marks a significant moment and demonstrates what stakeholder cooperation can achieve for the community.
