The CMW Glass Solutions Club Championships were played over 36 holes at Walvis Bay Golf Club on Saturday.

Kevin Wentzel shot a 71 and a 68 from a plus-one handicap to win by six shots, becoming the 2024 Club Champion. The runner-up gross was Chris Durandt on 145. Mario Polster was the best nett winner on 145, one shot ahead of Tienie de Wet.

The Ladies’ Champion for 2024 is Wilma de Wet, who also won the runner-up A Division nett prize. The winner of the A Division was Bertus Venter on 147. The B Division winner was Nathaniel Mudzingwa on 146, with Wouter van Wijk finishing as runner-up on 153 after a count-out. The Stableford winner over 18 holes was Emilio Maboh on 39 points, also winning a count-out against Shane Westerdale. Third place went to Wynand Möller on 35 points.

There were 10 two-clubs registered on the day, and the jackpot was not won. However, the real pot was unanimously claimed by Andre Burger. Kuda Chikwara was the lucky draw winner. Dean Kock handed out the prizes and committed to returning next year.

The club juniors were also active on the Rossmund course, competing in the Rossmund Junior Cup event. The eventual winner was Kyle Johnson, with Weitz van Niekerk winning the C Division. The D Division was won by Matthias Nel. Well done to all our juniors, who continue to excel and lead the way among the country’s junior golfers.

Once again, a player from the other side of the river came, saw, and conquered the Seniors’ competition last week, with Ken Roberts taking first place on 36 points. In second position was Chris Bothma, losing a count-out against Ken, while Rory Wolhuter came third.

This weekend will feature a special event. The format will be foursomes on the first nine and a better ball (off 85% allowance) with a shotgun start at 14:00. It’s official: the Captain has gone mad, as there will be four longest drive prizes on #17, divided into handicap divisions once entries are in. These will likely be something like 1–10, 11–16, 17–24, and 25+. This will be the last official golf competition of the year.

The Walvis Bay Golf Club leg of the National Sages, scheduled for 13 and 14 December, will be sponsored by Old Mutual.
