KBA playoff finals will light up DHPS hall

The season's championship race will kick off tomorrow with thrilling showdowns in Windhoek.
The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) regular season has, over the past two weeks, culminated in playoffs that will reach their crescendo this Friday at the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) basketball gym hall, where the finals will set the course for the ultimate championship title.
The finals will kick off with the Division 1 match between Basketball Arts School (BAS) Vikings and Unam Penguins at 17:00.
This will be followed by the Women’s Premier League clash at 19:00, where Unam Phoenix will battle Atlantic Storm.
The evening will conclude with the much-anticipated Men’s Premier League final at 20:40, featuring a showdown between Unam Rebels and Unam Wolves.
Women’s Premier League
In the Women’s Premier League, Unam Phoenix dominated the regular season standings with 23 points, followed closely by Atlantic Storms with 22 and Ongos Shooting Stars in third place with 19.
The playoffs saw Unam Phoenix comfortably secure their spot in the finals by sweeping Unam Wildcats 3-0 in a best-of-five series.
The semi-final clash between Ongos Shooting Stars and Atlantic Storm was a thrilling series. Although Ongos put up a strong fight, Atlantic Storms’ firepower proved too much and they won the series 3-1.
Men’s Premier League
In the Men’s Premier League, Unam Wolves finished the regular season at the top of the log with 22 points, with Unam Rebels in second also on 22 points, separated only by technicalities.
The Wolves made light work of Afro Stars in the semi-finals, winning the best-of-five series 3-0.
The other semi-final series between Unam Rebels and Quality Basketball Club was a tightly contested battle that went all the way to game five. Rebels clinched the series 3-2 in a thrilling conclusion.
Division 1
In Division 1, Unam Penguins led the standings with 10 points, followed by BAS Vikings with 9 points, and Plaza Warriors in third with 7 points. The semi-finals saw BAS dominate Plaza Warriors, winning their series 3-0.
The other semi-final in Division 1 featured defending champions Quality Basketball Club 2 facing Unam Penguins. Quality put up a valiant effort, but Unam Penguins ultimately triumphed 3-1.
Division 2
In Division 2, Lions topped the standings with 11 points, followed by Delta Panthers with 10 points, and Afro Stars II in third place. The semi-finals in Division 2 were a best-of-three series.
Afro Stars II pulled off a 2-0 victory over the Lions in a closely-contested matchup. The other semi-final saw NUST Gladiators face Delta Panthers in a dramatic series that went to game three. NUST emerged victorious 2-1 by clinching the tiebreaker.
Speaking about the prospects for Friday’s competition, long-standing leaders Unam Wolves' coach, Michael Dimes, said he expects nothing less than perfection.
“We worked so hard to get this far, and the only thing left is the championship – that’s what we’re after. We are here solely for the championship. I am not asking my players to be perfect, but I demand they play perfectly,” he emphasised.
