Kasomba and Jacobs hit targets to claim national titles

The nationals bought together 123 archers from 13 schools to test their level of accuracy.
The ninth edition of the African Genesis Archery (AGA) Namibia nationals was held at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek last weekend.
Teresa Nangobe Lauri Kasomba from Community Hope School and Tristan Dominick Sarel Jacobs from Berg-Op Academy were crowned national champions.
The competition brought together 123 AGA archers from 13 schools and 23 Adult Archery Generation (AAG) competitors from across the country, with coveted medals at stake including titles for the best archer in the country, best school, most improved archer and a chance to win a brand-new custom bow.
School-going archers, matriculants and parent archers competed in the Bull’s Eye and 3D Animal Round categories.
Bull’s Eye Round (max 600 score)
In the Junior Girls category, Elysia Wildgen from Central Elite Archery Club dominated with a score of 516 to secure the gold medal, while Margot de Klerk (St. Paul’s College) followed closely with a score of 508.
Meanwhile, Willem Jacobus van der Merwe (Central Elite Archery Club) emerged as the overall Junior Boys winner with a score of 567, followed by Samuel Webster (St. George’s School, 533).
In the Senior Girls category, Teresa Nangombe Lauri Kasomba (Community Hope School) claimed first place with a score of 560, followed by Petro Mostert (Berg-Op Academy) who was second with 556.
Ru-Wayne Bezuidenhout from WAP triumphed in the Senior Boys category with a score of 578, narrowly beating Tristan Dominick Sarel Jacobs from Berg-Op Academy (576).
Animal Round (max 600)
In the Junior Girls category, Elysia Wildgen once again topped the list with a score of 502, finishing ahead of Margot de Klerk (495).
Among the Junior Boys, Willem Jacobs van der Merwe repeated his success by claiming first place with a score of 558, followed by Lehan Raes (Privaatskool Moria), who took second with a score of 538.
In the Senior Girls category, Teresa Nangombe Lauri Kasomba continued her dominance, securing first place with a score of 554. Deidere Mostert from Berg-Op finished in second place with a score of 548.
In the Senior Boys competition, Tristan Dominick Sarel Jacobs (574) claimed the top spot, while Oliver Rothkegel (Central Elite Archery Club) took second place with 570.
Bull’s Eye and Animal Round (max 1200)
The Junior Girls combined results saw Elysia Wildgen crowned overall champion with a total score of 1018, alongside Junior Boys champion Willem Jacobus van der Merwe (1125).
In the combined Senior Girls category, Teresa Nangobe Lauri Kasomba was crowned champion with an overall score of 1114, while Tristan Dominick Sarel Jacobs was the Senior Boys champion (total 1150).
Overall team winners
The junior champion title went to Central Elite Archery Club, with Community Hope School securing the senior championship.
Other titles
The top-performing girl was Petro Mostert, alongside the top-performing boy Tristan Dominick Sarel Jacobs. The most improved girl was Reminda Lucy Haobes, alongside Björn Bergmann.
The top junior AGA school was Privaatskool Moria, with Berg-Op rewarded as the top senior AGA school.
In the AAG women’s section, the overall combined title was awarded to Ronelle Raes with a score of 842, alongside AAG men’s winner Paul van der Merwe.
Highlight competition
AGA Namibia president Poenie Weakley expressed his satisfaction with the recent national competition.
“Congratulations to all our archers who participated under tough circumstances. This is our highlight competition of the year, where champions are crowned and everyone else is inspired to become champions,” he said.
“Moving forward, we will focus on improving performances and achieving higher scores as we prepare for the World Championships in July 2025. This is all for the love of archery – changing lives one arrow at a time.”
