KICKBOXING: Namibian fighters look to defend their titles
This weekend, the Jan Wilken Indoor Sports Complex in Walvis Bay plays host to Desert Storm 5 International, featuring competitions in both kickboxing and jiu-jitsu.
The event kicks off on Friday at 17:00 with jiu-jitsu matches, following the weigh-ins for both jiu-jitsu and kickboxing which will take place from 10:30 to 16:00.
The main event on Saturday focuses on kickboxing, starting at 17:00 and continuing until midnight.
During this time, Namibian fighters Julian Müller and Delano Müller will defend their Sub-Saharan titles.
According to the president of the Namibian Kickboxing Federation (NKF), Anita de Klerk, the competition features over 150 divisions across various weight classes, with fighters from nine countries including Namibia, South Africa, Angola and Botswana participating.
“Desert Storm 5 is not just any event; it is the biggest kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu championship in the country,” she said.
The event includes a range of amateur disciplines, namely point fighting kickboxing (WAKO), light contact kickboxing (WAKO), full contact kickboxing (WAKO), K1 kickboxing (WAKO), jiu-jitsu GI (ADCC) and jiu-jitsu No-GI (AJP).
In addition to the martial arts competitions, attendees can look forward to a special performance by pole dancing world champion Judith Langer, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
