Deon Hotto to launch his foundation

Brave Warriors midfielder Deon Hotto will officially launch the foundation that bears his name on 13 June at Windhoek Country Club.

Namibia's versatile contributor for Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier League is a Nedbank Cup winner, two-time MTN8 Cup winner and player of the tournament, Pirates Player of the season, as well as Pirates Fans player of the season, among other tributes. He has also represented the Sowto club in the CAF Confederations Cup, while his goal for Namibia against Tunisia at Afcon 2024 carried the Brave Warriors to a historic 1-0 win and a first-time qualification for the round of 16.

Hotto intends to raise funds via the launch of the Deon Hotto Foundation for the development of a stadium in the Mondesa suburb of Swakopmund.

Separately, three DH Sports Facilities (each accommodating two 5-a side football courts and a netball court) are in the works at Swakopmund, Omaruru and Okahandja.

According to the 10-year outline of the envisioned projects, the construction of the first DH Sports Facility will commence in 2024 and could be completed in 2025.

“We want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of 150 children. The generous support of those present at the launch will enable us to create a brighter future for our community,” explained Carl Pesat, the chairperson of the Deon Hotto Foundation.

Hotto founded the Foundation as a platform to aid marginalised communities and persons through football. He says he wants to contribute to Namibia’s Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the 6th National Development Plan.

Pesat said the aim is to ensure that Mondesa, Swakopmund, becomes the sports infrastructure and ecosystem blueprint for the Foundation and at the same time complement ongoing efforts by the municipality to establish the town as a prime sports tourism destination.

“We want to replicate this concept in other parts of Namibia. The foundation will thus drive and enable the development of sports facilities in Namibia and provide support to soccer and other sports codes as well as less fortunate communities,” Pesat concluded.

The intentions of the Foundation to host the fourth edition of the Deon Hotto Charity Cup in Omaruru this year are already at an advanced stage. The inaugural edition was hosted in Henties Bay in 2019, the second edition in Henties Bay (2022) and the third edition took place in Swakopmund (2023).

The foundation started a donation initiative in 2018 and provides two donations per year to old age homes, orphanages, schools and sport clubs. Previous beneficiaries include Coastal High School and Atlantic Combined School in Swakopmund as well as Pahye Primary School in Omaruru.
