Achievers to be celebrated with Inaugural Wall of Fame

Nominations in all categories of the 2024 Awards will open this Friday. This year's main event will be hosted in Windhoek.
This year's Namibia Annual Sports Awards mark 20 years of celebrating the country’s sporting excellence, aiming to honour the journey of sports through two decades of passion and dedication.
The Awards feature a total of 20 categories, honouring individuals and teams, sports personalities with able bodies and those with disabilities, national federations, sports media and legends local and abroad.
Categories:
Sports Star of the Year / Sportsman of the Year / Sportswoman of the Year / Junior Sportsman of the Year / Junior Sportswoman of the Year / Sportsman of the Year with a Disability / Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability / Junior Sportsman of the Year with a Disability / Junior Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability / Sports Team of the Year / Coach of the Year / Umpire/Referee of the Year / Sports Development Programme of the Year / National Federation of the Year / NSC Chairperson’s Award / People’s Choice Sports Star of the Year / Community Inspiration Award / Professional Athlete of the Year in the Diaspora / Sports Journalist of the Year has three sub-categories, for Broadcasting (Radio & TV), Print (newspapers, magazines, etc.) and Digital (online, social & photography) / Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Awards qualifying period reviews performances from 1 October of the preceding year (2023) to 30 September of the year under review.
Nominations will be submitted through the NSC online registration at www.nscportal.org.
Timeline of important events:
Opening of nominations – Friday, 5 July, 2024.
Closing of nominations – 20 September, 2024.
Submission of nominations file to judges – 26 September, 2024.
Announcement of finalists – 16 October, 2024.
Submission of finalists file to auditors – 21 October, 2024.
Sports Awards Main Event – 23 November, 2024, Windhoek (venue to be confirmed).
Wall of Fame
The Wall of Fame will display names, pictures, and details of exceptional Namibian sports performers and contributors.
Erwin Handura, recently appointed development officer at the Namibia Sports Commission, highlighted its significance at the launch, stating: “With the Wall of Fame, we want to honour and reward Sporting Excellence by our top athletes, officials, and contributors.”
Further details regarding the venue, criteria for selecting candidates, and contributors will be announced separately during the logo launch and Adjudication Committee unveiling.
“We look forward to rewarding and honouring our prestigious performers with the Wall of Fame,” Handura added.
