1304 sign hate speech petition
A total of 1304 signed a petition to institutionalise a bill of protection for the LGBTQI community in Namibia.
The petition was opened by Ndiilokelwa Ntengwe.
According to the online petition, the LGBTQI community, demands:
1. A revision of the hate speech bill to be addressed and adopted in parliament.
2. For the office of the ombudsman and the media ombudsman to address and act on a WhatsApp group that has been created against the LGBTQI community.
3. Parliament to recognise that there is state sanctioned homophobia in the country.
4. To include digital security within the hate speech bill.
5. For the Ministry of Gender, Justice, Safety and Security to convene on a rapid response plan to protect the LGBTQI community.
6. That a parliamentary standing committee has to be created to address said WhatsApp group.
According to the online petition, if these demands are not met there will be a nationwide protest by the #ShutItAllDownNamibia movement.
