Guinas by-election scheduled for next week Friday
The Guinas Constituency will hold its by-election next Friday, following the death of former councillor Elias Martinus on 21 October last year. Only two political parties will compete in the by-election: Swapo and the Landless People's Movement (LPM). Representing Swapo is Moses Khumub, while Fransiscus Khumub is the LPM candidate. Notably, the two candidates are cousins. In the 2020 regional council elections, the late Elias Martinus secured 1,268 votes, representing Swapo, while Pinehas Heita of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) received 95 votes. The Guinas constituency has a population of fewer than 5,000 eligible voters, making it a relatively small but significant election.
