Berg Aukas pumps still broken

News in short

NamWater confirmed on Friday that the two pumps that pump water from the old Berg Aukas mine into the water canal are broken. Farmers along the canal have been without water for more than a week now because the canal is dry.

Many farmers are entirely dependent on canal water and must now transport water for their animals and workers every day from Grootfontein. Other farmers have a borehole and are able to help themselves for the time being.

Andries Kok of NamWater confirmed that both pumps are out of order and that they are currently experiencing problems with the repairs.

"This is a big problem over the holiday period because all businesses are closed. We hope that businesses open today and that we can quickly resolve the issue and resume pumping water,” he said.
