Napha advocates for ethical hunting

Ellanie Smit
President of the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (Napha), Axel Cramer, recently featured on the Big Game Hunting Podcast to promote ethical hunting practices globally.

In the podcast, Cramer discussed the introduction of Napha’s age-related trophy hunting measuring system.

This initiative aims to encourage the hunting of older, post-prime animals, supporting wildlife population management and biodiversity.

Cramer’s advocacy for this system highlights Napha’s forward-thinking approach to conservation and ethical hunting standards, the association said.

Significant contribution

Napha said during a detailed discussion, Cramer explored the nuances of this innovative system, which prioritises the hunting of older, post-prime animals to ensure the sustainability and ethical management of wildlife populations.

The system's potential has been recognised to significantly contribute to conservation efforts in Namibia, highlighting its alignment with global best practices for sustainable hunting.

According to Napha, the emphasis on targeting animals that have had the opportunity to contribute genetically to their populations resonated with the show’s theme of responsible hunting.

Global model

Napha's efforts to lead by example in the hunting community, showcasing the age-related trophy measurement system, are a model for other regions to consider.

Cramer’s participation in the podcast served as a strategic move to elevate Napha’s international profile, showcasing Namibia’s hunting landscape and ethical hunting framework.

He emphasised the importance of engaging with Napha members for hunting activities, providing assurance to international hunters about the professionalism and ethical standards upheld by the association.
