What are your impressions of the upcoming elections so far? Are you comfortable with how the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is conducting the electoral activities?
Thully Uupindi

I'd say the ECN is aiming for transparency and democracy to prevail, but there is still a need for more vigorous voter education campaigns. For instance, they should educate us on the importance of voting, the consequences of not voting and understanding the possibility of having different candidates for the presidency and National Assembly. For example, to reach out to the youth, they can use various social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.

I see Swapo winning these upcoming elections, of course. Yes, I see a high number of opposition parties going into parliament too. Looking at how both the ruling party and the opposition parties are expressing themselves towards the ECN, I think they should do better.

Michael George

It is going to be an interesting election because the competition is tough. People are complaining about bread and butter issues on a daily basis; hence, the outcome of this election will be very surprising. As to ECN, I don’t know much about their processes, but I am reading a lot of stuff and it is not always in a positive light. I think they should just make sure the elections will be free and fair.

Sunny Wekes

The elections will be tough for all parties. As much as Swapo is doing a lot in terms of campaigning, the results might not reflect an outright majority win for them. IPC and PDM are also doing well in terms of numbers – as such, it will boil down to the voter. As for ECN, they have not been transparent enough and that’s why the public and the political parties are complaining.

Gabriel Thomas

My impression so far is that it will not be an easy election. We have so many political parties from which the electorate must choose. Political parties are campaigning, and I am just happy that we do not have chaos and violence happening in communities. ECN must improve on giving the public information on time and avoid the negative publicity.

Joel Matheus

To be honest with you, I see political parties campaigning in our town, giving out T-shirts, but I will not vote this year. At the end of the day, it is those in power who are benefitting. I am suffering, and the government is doing nothing for me. I have been voting all these years and that is why I cannot tell you what my impression is. I have given up.
