Over 1 400 non-resident citizens registered to vote

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has revealed that 1 430 non-resident citizens have been issued with voter cards to be eligible to participate in the November presidential and national elections.
This was confirmed by spokesperson De Wet Siluka.
Namibia is one of the few countries in the world that allows non-resident citizens to exercise their democratic right to take part in national elections.
Siluka said the ECN has set up registration points at foreign missions. “We have established 35 registration points at our foreign missions across the globe. So far, we have registered over 1 400 eligible voters from abroad,” he said.
According to the latest figures announced by the ECN, by 20 July, 1.15 million Namibians had registered to vote. The registration deadline is 1 August, and the ECN has indicated that there will be no extensions.
