Netumbo urges Swapo members to preach party achievements

Party’s track record 'there for all to see'
Nandi-Ndaitwah waxed lyrical about Swapo 'glorious' history, but was quick to add that Namibians should not hesitate to point out the party's mistakes.

Swapo vice-president and presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the ruling party has a proud history, adding that Namibian must amplify its successes and what it has done to develop the country's economy and infrastructure.

Speaking during the launch of Swapo key campaign tools on Monday, she waxed lyrical about the party’s 'glorious' history, saying its track record of delivering hospitals, schools and several other public services is there for all to see.

The party's campaign tools include the Swapo website, the party mouthpiece Namibia Today newspaper, Swapo radio programmes and the presidential candidate's profile.

Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised that Namibians must also be open to inform the party of the mistakes it has made.

“We must go by statistics. Statistics are there. They are very detailed. You will be told how many schools were built, how many hospitals and how many water points - all of that is there. We have created a strong basis for economic independence. We even discovered or brought to light the new industries in our country and this will help us to accelerate economic development through natural resource diversion, through a shared prosperity. This is the profile of Swapo,” she said.

'What you see is what you get'

Ahead of the November elections, she said the leadership of some political parties is not stable and has left some areas stagnant. According to her, this casts doubt on the ability of some leaders.

“Let us remind people of the mistakes they made at the last elections that made some of our places literally stagnant with no hope because even the leadership is not stable. How do you govern a country without a stable leadership? These are the lessons we have to learn,” she said.

Meanwhile, motivating her own profile, Nandi-Ndaitwah said she is transparent, forthright and believes in the power of the youth.

“Who is Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah? What you see is what you get. She is transparent, honest and forthright. She is passionate about the plight of the downtrodden. She has been a champion of women emancipation and protector of children’s rights, and she believes in the power of the youth," she said.

The party vice-president went on to describe herself as a "permanent member" of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) "by card and heart".

Issues close to her heart are food production and the elimination of hunger and malnutrition, she said, adding that one of her priorities as president - if elected - will be local value addition to natural resources.

"A person of action who has always been hands on for every task assigned to her, Netumbo believes in efficient service delivery and the pursuit of excellence. She believes in upholding high moral values and ethical standards and has zero tolerance for corruption, as a true Namibian who knows that corruption deprives citizens of access to resources and opportunities,” she said.

If elected towards the end of this year, Nandi-Ndaitwah will be Namibia's first female president.
