LPM calls Swapo deceptive, blind

Landless People's Movement (LPM) national spokesperson Eneas Emvula this week released a statement accusing the ruling party of "derailing democracy" and being "deceptive."

Emvula further accused Swapo of continuously turning a blind eye to socio-economic woes and said the government remains publicly muted and overly apathetic to these grievances while wining and dining in Dubai.

"When will the dining and wining in Dubai by President Hage Geingob and his members of Cabinet transform the day-to-day lives of the Epupa family of the elderly still sleeping under a tree since 2019?" he asked during an interview with Namibian Sun.

This is not the first time the opposition party calls Swapo out. The party's leaders have been vocal about their disapproval of the way the ruling party does things.

When asked what sparked the party's frustration, Emvula said the state has lost track of human capital development as well as the infrastructural and economic developmental agenda, and needs to be reminded.

In addition, he slammed Swapo for "gambling with taxpayer-funded resources" and financing an elusive "behind closed-doors-investor-hunt globetrot".

"There is no clear road map on some of these give-away investment projects by the Head of State describing how and by when they will contribute to redressing the ailing state health facilities," he continued.

Revolutionary songs

Last October, the Dubai Expo kicked off and Namibia coughed up close to N$20 million for the six-month event.

Criticism started around Namibia's involvement and the lack of knowledge from the public about potential investments.

Emvula called on Swapo to stop singing "revolutionary songs" and to stop saying that social injustices will be addressed once it is voted into power in the 2024 elections.

LPM added that among several other injustices, Swapo has fuelled tribalism "more than any other party".
