Elections: Police deploy 4 600 officers
NEWS IN SHORT
The Namibian Police have announced the deployment of 4 677 officers to polling stations, covering all 121 constituencies countrywide, to ensure safety and security during the electoral process.
This was announced on Friday by Deputy Inspector-General for Operations, Major General Elias Mutota, when he provided an update on the preparedness of the security cluster for the presidential and National Assembly Elections.
“In preparation for election day, provision was made for the members of the security cluster to cast their votes on 13 November. In addition, each region will deploy police officers on routine patrols and have teams on standby for investigations. The police has established a national joint operations centre complemented by the regional operations centres to coordinate and support the election activities in all regions,” Mutota said.
Mutota said the police gave extensive training to its members ahead of the elections. “The deployed officers are well aware of the police functions and are inducted and prepared to handle any challenges that may be encountered,” he said.
