Police: New blood in regions
...As commissioners retire
The Namibian Police have welcomed a number of members into new positions as the old guard bows out.
Commissioner Naftal Lunameni Sakaria has been promoted and appointed as the new police commander for the Oshana Region, effective 1 August.
He will be replacing Commissioner Rauha Amwele who is retiring from active service after 32 years.
Sakaria has 26 years of policing experience. His career started at Arandis Police Station as a constable and he has served in various capacities and progressed in positions until he was appointed as the special reserve force’s head of operations. He ultimately took over in 2015 as the head of the special reserve force.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku will replace Commissioner Armas Shivute as the regional commander for Oshikoto.
Shivute retired from active public service after 32 years.
Kalompo-Nashikaku has 26 years of experience after joining the police in 1996, and started her career at the Windhoek Police Station as a constable.
She also served in various positions until being transferred to the special field force directorate where she led the trial and prosecution and training sub-divisions, and was ultimately appointed as the special field force’s head of administration.

Effective 1 July, the newly promoted and appointed Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo replaced Commissioner Josephat Abel as commander for Kavango West. He retired from active public service after 31 years.
Sakuwa-Neo has 26 years of experience and started her career at the Wanaheda Police Station as a constable. She progressed in ranks and was promoted to deputy commissioner in 2016 and appointed as the head of administration for the //Karas Region. A year later, she was transferred to Zambezi in the same position until she was again transferred to Oshikoto, also in the same position.
Furthermore, effective 1 July, Commissioner Lavina Shaxula was promoted and appointed as the principal staff officer to the Inspector-General, replacing John Alweendo - who retired after 31 years.
Shaxula is a veteran of the liberation struggle whose policing career started at the Wanaheda Police Station as a constable. She served in various capacities, and during 2012 to 2018 headed the police force’s curriculum development, planning and research division under the training and development directorate. She was the Kunene regional headquarters’ head of administration from 2018 to 2022.
