Walvis Bay car crashes kill three
Three people died in two fatal car accidents in Walvis Bay over the weekend.
In the first incident, the police reported that a white Kia with a Walvis Bay registration with four occupants, including the driver Benedick Sebastiaan Engelbrecht (35), was travelling from Dunes Mall towards Narraville.
Meanwhile, a silver VW Golf, also registered in Walvis Bay, with two occupants, including the driver Faustinus Mandume Mudumbi (45), was travelling from the opposite direction when the cars collided head-on.
"Engelbrecht was pronounced dead, while Mudubi sustained moderate injuries. Passengers in both vehicles sustained minor to serious injuries and were taken to Walvis Bay State Hospital," said the unit commander of community affairs, inspector Ileni Shapumba, who confirmed the accident.
She said it took place on Saturday at about 21:00 on the C14 road, near the Engen service station in Walvis Bay.
The deceased's body was taken to the Walvis Bay police mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Lost control
In the second incident, on Saturday just after 21:00 on the B2 road near Long Beach, a white Colt bakkie with three occupants, including the driver Selwyn Sebastina Vries (36), was travelling from Swakopmund towards Walvis Bay when the driver lost control over the vehicle while overtaking a vehicle that was driving in front.
According to Shapumba, the vehicle overturned and rolled several times before it landed on the driver's side.
"The driver and one of the passengers (unidentified) were declared dead at the scene.
"Another passenger (60), the owner of the vehicle, sustained no injuries."
