Geingob’s governance mantra to ‘inspire’ SOE bosses

Ogone Tlhage
Public Enterprises CEOs’ Forum chairperson Fluksman Samuehl says heads of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will draw inspiration from late president Hage Geingob’s commitment to public service.

He made the remarks during a service held in honour of the late statesman, who he said had committed his entire life to public service for the good of Namibia.

“In the public enterprises sector, we will continue to draw lessons from president Geingob’s commitment to public service as we remember the extraordinary work he has done,” Samuehl told mourners at the service held at Independence Arena in Katutura.

He said SOE bosses would fondly remember Geingob’s leadership style, particularly to uphold state institutions.

“We shall forever be grateful to president Geingob for the leadership he provided our nation, his strong belief in effective governance systems and his commitment to building credible state institutions,” he said.

“[Geingob’s death] comes at a time when all sectors of society are yearning for ethical-orientated, incorruptible and meritocratic leadership in all sectors of society,” Samuehl added.

He further urged that government - with the academic sector and the input of the Geingob family - look towards rededicating 4 February as a date to celebrate the life of the late president by way of holding public lectures in his honour.

Geingob died earlier this month after a short battle with cancer. He will be laid to rest at Heroes’ Acre on Sunday, 25 February.
