Suicides continue to haunt Namibia
Over the weekend, Namibian police reported multiple cases of suicide and one attempted suicide.
Three men took their own lives, while a passerby in Omulunga intervened to save a 24-year-old man who was attempting to end his own life. The man was taken to hospital for medical care.
In Seeis, police are investigating the suicide of a 56-year-old Namibian farm worker. No suicide note was discovered.
Another suicide occurred in Ongolo village, where a 55-year-old man reportedly died on Saturday night. His wife discovered his body, and no suicide note was left behind.
Additionally, a 34-year-old Angolan man was reported to have died by suicide at Onaayamba village over the weekend.
Gruesome discovery
In a separate incident, police reported the discovery of a four- to five-month-old foetus in a dustbin near the 6000 Complex in Ondangwa. No arrests have been made to date.
Robberies
Police are investigating a violent robbery in Okahandja involving an elderly couple, aged 81 and 83. The couple was robbed of household and other items valued at N$400 000 when intruders broke into their home between 01:00 and 02:00.
According to the police report, the couple was alerted to the intruders by their dog's barking and discovered four men inside their house. The robbers bound the victims with cloth, locked them in the toilet and stole various items.
The victims were only able to free themselves and contact their son around 16:10 later that day, who then reported the incident to the police. No arrests or recoveries have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
In Windhoek's Wanaheda suburb, business premises were broken into early Saturday morning around 02:14. The suspect or suspects damaged the complainant's CCTV camera valued at N$18 000. No items were stolen during the break-in, however.
In the Shandumbala location of Katutura, it was reported that an unknown number of suspects scaled a wall and stole the complainant’s mountain bike, valued at N$69 900. No arrests or recoveries have been made in any of these cases.
