EDITORIAL: THE AUDACITY!

The audacity!

That was my reaction when I learnt that Germany chose to defend in the International Criminal Court of Justice the inhumane attacks Israel continues to subject Palestinians to.

Firstly, Germany has no leg to stand on or to claim any moral high ground when it comes to matters of genocide. The Germans have suddenly developed dementia and forgot about the gruesome acts of inhumanity committed in Namibia some 120 years ago, where thousands of innocent people lost their lives, land and livestock.

Germany will forever have blood on their hands, and we will keep reminding them until they show compassion and acknowledge, apologise, and pay reparations for the Namibian genocide.

I must, however, say that Germany’s decision to oppose South Africa’s application does not come as a surprise. It is clear to see that they want this case to fail, because if it does not, it will have widespread ramifications for all those who committed acts of genocide in the past, Germany included.

This move by Germany must also serve as a lesson to the Namibian government that Germany will support pro-genocide causes when the opportunity presents itself. As Namibians, we therefore cannot expect Germany to take the genocide negotiations with Namibia seriously. This also shows that Germany completely disregards all principles of human rights.
