Youth boxers thrill at KBF event
Boxing stables in the Khomas Region put their top fighters on the line-up at a competition recently held in Windhoek.
The Khomas Boxing Federation (KBF) has lauded the boxers who were part of their tournament held over the weekend.
The youth championships took place at the After School Centre in Windhoek last Saturday, with several boxers from different academies trading leather.
“We are happy with the progress and the way the championship went down at the weekend.
“I must say that the tournament was very successful and went according to plan,” KBF public relations officer Zesora Tjipe said.
The aim of the tournament was to select a Khomas youth boxing team that will represent the region in the national youth games slated for April.
“I would like to thank all the boxing gyms in Khomas for their cooperation and help for staging this tournament.
KBF selected 12 boxers from the competition and is still likely to trim the group to eight after a boxing camp.
The selected fighters will eventually be part of the team that will travel to the Erongo Region for the championship scheduled to take place from 29 April to 2 May.
The federation has now registered two additional members, Bright Warriors Boxing Club and Power-Power Boxing Academy, to bring the number of clubs in the region to 14 for 2020.
KBF chairman Jason Naule believes that the increase in boxing clubs will ensure that more talented fighters are unearthed in the region.
The federation is confident that boxing development has improved in Khomas.
Many of the boxers who made their professional debut in 2019 are believed to have come from a development programme by the KBF.
Meanwhile, the federation still remains without an official sponsor for their development programmes.
While lauding those who supported them in 2019, they hope for companies to come on board to help the sport grow.
