Your medical supplies specialist at the Coast
This company caters to all medical facilities, including pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and emergency rooms.
Established in 2008, Westmed is a medical wholesaler based in Walvis Bay catering for the Erongo region, while its sister companies Erongomed and Newmed look after the rest of Namibia.
Located at Welwitschia Medi-Park, Westmed is open throughout the week during business hours.
General manager Mandi van der Lith says that Westmed specialises in medical equipment as well as disposable medical products.
“We also have a wide variety of pharmaceutical products on hand. Westmed recently started with specialised wound care products and this is managed by a trained sales representative.”
The company also sells medical equipment and furniture, including hospital beds, blood pressure meters, patient monitors, ultrasound units, ECG and anaesthetic machines as well as lab equipment/consumables for mining, biological and pathology labs.
“We offer full service and support on all our equipment through our in-house technical department,” Van der Lith says.
She adds that Westmed caters to all medical facilities including pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and emergency rooms. Private individuals can also purchase surgical instruments and disposable products from them.
Westmed’s pharmacist Jan Grobbelaar says that the company takes hygiene very seriously and offers a variety of products.
“We supply sterile and non-sterile gloves as well as surgical mop caps. Westmed also supplies alcohol solutions for cleaning hands as well as strong solutions to cleanse surfaces and instruments. Hygiene is very important to us and we have all the necessary products available to help protect you.”
Westmed medical representatives are fully trained and therefore provide constant trainings in their various portfolios.
Hazardous waste products can be delivered to Westmed where it can be properly stored and taken to qualified incinerators.
Westmed also offers inspections on fishing vessels that have on-board medical facilities. Grobbelaar says that according to the Merchant Shipping Act 57 of 1951, all sea-going vessels are obliged to have medical facilities, stock and trained personnel on board.
“All vessels are categorised according to size, crew size and duration of trips. These facilities have to be inspected and certified on an annual basis. Westmed does these inspections and issues a certificate valid for one year. At Westmed these inspections are done by a qualified Namibian pharmacist and assistants working according to the World Health Organisation Medical Guideline for Ships 3rd Edition. All expired stock is removed and incinerated as hazardous substances by a facility in Walvis Bay.”
Van der Lith says that the Westmed prides itself on the fact that they have friendly and competent staff ready to go the extra mile for their customers.
“We try our absolute best to please our clients and at the same time to make a difference in our community.”
