Working towards netball passion

Administrator Dimitri Bittler has expressed satisfaction with the quality of netball played over the weekend.
The Afrocat Organisation founder said this following a series of matches hosted at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College and at the Dr Lemmer High School field in Rehoboth.
Like other contact sports codes, netball was halted for more than two months by the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am, however, pleased with the return of the sport and everyone is excited about being back on the courts.
“We are also really impressed with the results and the high-level performance of the ladies.
“Yes, the temperatures where high, but the ladies continued playing without any complaints because this is the game they love so much,” Bittler said.
Aiming for the top
The teams at Khomas regional level currently play in the second division, first division and the Super 10.
This helps teams get promoted from one division to another after the season.
“These clubs obviously play with the dream of getting to the elite MTC Namibia Netball Premier League.
“That is why we are actually happy that the leagues have resumed in order for the players to get closer to achieving those dreams,” Bittler said.
No sponsorships
The challenges these leagues face at the moment include adequate funding, which has often hampered their operations.
The structures only generate funding from membership fees, something which Bittler hopes will be improved.
“We really do need sponsors to come on board in order to strengthen these divisions.
“You can see that the potential is there and these are the leagues that actually also provide players to the national team,” he added.
