Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) is not planning to use international sport stars as ambassadors for their product, Windhoek Lager, in the foreseeable future.
This according to the Ohlthaver & List Group corporate affairs officer, Francios Olivier, follwoing queries on whether former Chelsea great Didier Drogba might return to advertising campaigns for the beloved beer.
Drogba, one of the world's most loved football legends, was in 2014 hosted in Windhoek by NBL for a day visit in celebration of the beer.
The campaign commemorated the story of a beer from Africa that has grown to be celebrated and loved worldwide, and drew comparison to a man who has followed a similar journey.
Multimillion-dollar campaign
The two-year campaign amounted to N$20 million, and the partnership saw Drogba appearing in a TV commercial, as well as on posters, billboards and other advertising materials for the brand.
During his visit, Drogba emphasised the importance of education, and urged consumers to take care of and nurture children as they are the future.
He went on tell them to believe in their dreams and to work hard in order to see results.
Attempts to get comment from Drogba
went unanswered before print.
Other campaigns
Meanwhile, in January, a Windhoek Lager advertisement shot in Cape Town featured Scottish actor Gerard Butler.
He is well known for his roles in 300, Law-Abiding Citizen and Geostorm, amongst others.
