Weekend recap: NAMAs awards top categories, new music releases

It was a busy weekend for Namibia’s biggest music platform, the Namibian Music Awards (NAMAs), as it awarded artists in the best male artist of the year, best female artist of the year, best album and artist of the year categories.
Newbie at the NAMAs Rose Blvc, who had seven nominations in total, emerged the biggest winner, bagging the best female artist of the year, best album and artist of the year awards, while rapper Kp Illest scooped the coveted best male artist award.
On her accomplishment, Rose Blvc told tjil she feels proud to have won the awards.
“I feel satisfied that I did not give up despite being new and my genre of music is not the most celebrated in our country.
“I am happy because I made my hometown, Okahandja, and myself proud,” said the multi award-winning musician.
New music
In other news, a couple of Namibian musicians also dropped notable new sounds last weekend. Among them was Gazza, who released visuals to his new single Brandewyn.
“We hit 40 000 views on YouTube on day one! The music means nothing without your support, thank you guys, there is a lot more where this came from,” he said, hinting at a new album release.
Meanwhile, United Nations Namibia also assembled numerous Namibian artists for the song Better Tomorrow, as the organisation commemorated 75 years since its entry into the UN Charter.
The song features Kp Illest, Lioness, Suzy Eises, Sean K, DJ Shoza, SheCantGo, Jeiyo, Harry and Professy.
“What a time to be alive! UN Namibia, myself and a few very talented artists came together for a great cause. I couldn’t be more proud. A Better Tomorrow is what we all need,” said Kp Illest.
