Innovation Studios talks about their acting and filming workshops to be conducted in Windhoek and how actors can join.
A call for acting enthusiasts to join the Innovation Studios Acting Club has been made by its founder members for all Windhoek residents. Innovation Studios, launched three years ago, is a film and graphics organisation that shoots documentaries to short films and edits them. As a way of giving back to the public, Innovation Studios conducts free acting and directing courses to the public. They have been successful in Otjiwarongo in the past.
Founder Jeffrey Ngakuzevi says they saw the need to offer free classes as a lot of people have the potential of becoming great actors but many do not have the platform to explore their talents. According to him, many people lose out on following their dream careers due to restraining environments that don't see a secured life from acting.
“These are the myths and taboos we are trying to do away with. We believe if we show people that they can act from such a young age, chances are they will take up the challenge and be able to represent us globally, just from acting,” he said.
At the moment the club has close to 60 members of whom the majority are from Otjiwarongo. Member application forms are available for download on their website innovationstudios.wixsite.com/film, can be collected from their offices in Eros or alternatively on their social media. Perks of being a member include four months of training where members are taught character development from established actors from Kenya, and how to be directors, producers or script writers.
“We the founder members have different knowledge and skills that we pass on to the participants through training. The uniqueness of filming is that one does not necessarily have to go for tertiary education as it is a skill learned ion the field unless you want to add onto that. Filming schools are quite expensive which is also discouraging that's why we offer classes for free so no one is left out,” he said.
Ngakuzevi hopes to receive at least 100 applications forms from Windhoek and urges every acting enthusiast from age 14 upwards to apply. All actors at the end of the training will be featured in one of Innovation Studio's short film. So far, Innovation Studios has shot films including 'The Outcome of Dirty Secrets' and 'Behind the Shadow'.
