The 2016 Katutura Expo has raised N$170 000 from pledges made at the sponsorship launch yesterday.
The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development made the highest pledge of N$100 000, while the City of Windhoek donated in kind.
Speaking at the inauguration, deputy chairperson of the organising committee Ndeulipulwa Hamutumwa said their aim is to see the expo grow bigger every year.
“We appreciate the support from different organisations as the expo is also growing, but we are hopeful for more support,” he said.
The committee said the total amount raised during the announcement will be made public at a later stage.
Those present at the announcement were Old Mutual and AgriBank who each donated N$10 000.
Another sponsor, Namsov Community Trust that has been a sponsor of the event over the years, also came on board, but their sponsorship was not announced. A company named in memory of the late Aaron Mushimba also pledged
N$50 000.
The expo which aims to promote agriculture, has Feedmaster, Agra and Meatco sponsoring the farmers’ evening. Hamutumwa explained that the money collected from the sponsors will be used to cover logistics necessary for the organisation of the event.
The expo will run from 26 to 31. The official opening is scheduled for Thursday, 28 July, and the Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is the guest speaker.
The expo is an annual event launched in 2011 by the Katutura Central Constituency, with the support of Katutura residents, to provide a platform for SMEs to showcase and market products and services.
