Unity will spare Swapo from extinction – Neka
The youth’s laid-back approach towards Swapo is “counter-revolutionary”, the association said, and cost the party dearly in recent elections.

The Namibia Exile Kids Association (Neka) has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling party, questioning Swapo’s maturity during its “wisdom years” as its members seem to be pulling in different directions.
Referring to the party’s 61 years of existence, Neka said it has obtained organic growth over the years.
“It is thus expected that the party is mature enough to provide wisdom, guidance and advice to the younger generation and entire rank and file and this becomes more critical during this political leadership succession phase.”
Neka further said disunity and tribalism have “eroded the spinal cord of the Swapo Party”.
“The party has found itself in the ocean of disunity,” the association said.
“The lack of convergence on an ideal, collective and sustainable ideology has shattered the dreams and aspirations of many young people,” a statement by Neka read, which described the youth’s laid-back approach towards the party as “counter-revolutionary”, which it said cost Swapo dearly in the elections.
Battle of the soul
In the statement, Neka secretary-general Mao Angula said differences in political ideologies between individuals in the party have contributed to the “imminent battle of the soul of Swapo”.
Issued on Sunday, the statement came shortly after Swapo secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa urged the party’s regional structures to hold members accountable for the sake of the party’s survival.
Neka said “skilful lifesavers” are needed to save the party from extinction.
“We need to ensure that the party structures remain strengthened and, as such, Neka calls upon its entire broad membership to actively participate in the renewal of mandate for the section leadership structures.
“Neka shall continue to work closely with the leadership of the party to ensure that the gains of the liberation struggle are not reversed and betrayed,” the association said.
“As we approach the 2022 Swapo Party elective congress, the values that underpinned our existence - solidarity, freedom and justice - must at all material times reign supreme.”
